Word for 2014: Hope

Ok, this post is a little late coming, I know that. In my defence I've been rather busy of late, and also wanted to have a good think before I settled on a word for the year. For the uninitiated, the idea is that you pick a word, any word, and you see where it takes you that year. It's a word to focus on and to be inspired by each day. The concept of picking a word has long been around on the blogosphere, with many folk getting involved, picking their word and really owning it for 365 days. It's been so inspiring to see other bloggers lead the way, each going on their own journey. For example, my friend and super wonderful crafter/maker/blogger/photographer/mama {phew!}, Emily Quinton, focused on the word 'love' last year, opting for 'content' this year. You can read her thoughts here.

So, for me, this new year, I wanted to choose a word that would inspire growth and that would stir excitement within. The word I've chosen is hope. I guess, given all we've been through in the past few years {hello, three ectopic pregnancies, I'm looking at you}, I need hope in my heart, now more than ever. My faith tells me that I can hope in God. But it's not always easy, is it? Especially when life seems to be so full of battles, big and small. There are countless mentions of hope in the Bible, which I am certainly going to be reading this coming year, but the quote above from Tennyson has certainly made me smile today. I like the idea of hope whispering this new year. It sparks something in my soul, something that words can't adequately express.

So, here's to a hopeful, happy 2014. I'l let you know how the journey goes!

Have you picked a word for 2014? I'd love to know, if you have. We can journey along together.
